1881 ENGLAND CENSUS- 10 PEABODY STREET

On her wedding day 6 August 1881 Mary Charlotte McGhie gives an address of 10 Peabody Street.

A search for the Census Return of 3 April 1881 for 10 Peabody Street shows that an Alexr Brown lived there with his wife and 2 children.

However there was also a boarder called “Mary Charlotte M. GEE” aged 20 and occupation “(ls) Restaurant Waitress”.

This obviously refers to our great grandmother Mary Charlotte McGhie but with a spelling mistake made either by the Head of the household on the original Census Form back in 1881 or by the person transcribing the Census Return.

We know Mary Charlotte’s father was called Alexander McGhie but at this point in time I have been unable to find him in the 1881 England Census.
